Dr. Megan Carlson, director of health services for Indianapolis Public Schools, has co-authored a new toolkit aimed at aiding school nurses in supporting students with epilepsy. The toolkit, titled "Supporting Students with Epilepsy: A Transition Toolkit for School Nurses," was developed in collaboration with the National Association of School Nurses (NASN) and funded by a grant from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and Health and Human Services.

The toolkit is now accessible on the CDC website. It offers practical guidelines and steps to assist school nurses in helping students with epilepsy transition from pediatric to adult healthcare. The resource highlights the importance of coordinated care among schools, families, and healthcare providers to ensure that students succeed academically, socially, and emotionally.

Carlson expressed her gratitude towards NASN, the CDC, and all contributors involved in the project. She stated, “To my fellow school nurses, thank you for your unwavering commitment to student health,” adding her hope that the toolkit will empower them to better support students with epilepsy during critical transitions.
