Victor Ovitah Jr., a graduate of Arsenal Technical High School, returned to Indianapolis Public Schools (IPS) for a Career Development Day held at Crispus Attucks High School. Ovitah, now a manager in product support at Genesys, aimed to inspire students by sharing his professional journey and insights into career possibilities.
Reflecting on his experience as an IPS alum, Ovitah stated, “I’m definitely proud to be an IPS alum. We’ve got to show our youth the way. We often push them through school, but we should give them more direction in terms of letting them know what the options are once they graduate.” In his role at Genesys, he leads a global team managing software solutions for call centers and emphasized project management fundamentals during small group meetings with students.
The event featured professionals from various industries, offering students insights into potential career paths. Angela Henry, employment engagement manager for IPS, highlighted the importance of these events: “As IPS continues to invest in these transformative experiences, Career Development Day stands as a testament to our commitment to preparing students not just for jobs, but for meaningful, impactful careers.”
Career Development Days are now required at all district-managed high schools due to House Bill 1002 passed in 2023. The legislation focuses on career-connected learning and aims to equip students with knowledge about diverse career paths and necessary education or training.
