Indianapolis Public Schools (IPS) is highlighting the journeys of its alumni through a new initiative called the IPS Alumni Spotlight. This effort aims to celebrate former students by sharing their experiences and achievements. Cherell Williams, a 2005 graduate of Arsenal Technical High School, recently shared her story with IPS.
Williams, who now resides in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, pursued higher education after leaving IPS. She earned a bachelor's degree in pharmacy from Xavier University of Louisiana in 2011 and later obtained an MBA from the University of Texas Tyler in 2016. Currently, she serves as the director of Specialty Pharmacy Services at Cencora.
Reflecting on her time at IPS, Williams credited the Healthcare Magnet program at Arsenal Tech for setting her on a clear path toward her career as a pharmacist. "The Healthcare Magnet as Tech allowed me to explore careers in healthcare before graduating from high school," she stated.
She also recalled influential figures during her time at IPS, particularly Sara Trombley, who provided support and encouragement. "Sara Trombley was a lifesaver. She gave us a space to belong, grow and learn," Williams noted.
Williams emphasized how her education at IPS equipped her with essential tools for success. Her involvement in activities like student council and the National Honor Society shaped both her personal and professional development. "My education at IPS gave me the tools that I needed to be successful," she said.
The skills acquired throughout her schooling years have proven valuable in various aspects of life. From elementary school at Ernie Pyle to middle school at Crispus Attucks and high school at Tech, Williams learned resilience and perseverance. "I learned that there are tough seasons in life, but that God has given me what I need to weather the storms," she explained.
Williams also faced challenges during her time at IPS but found ways to overcome them by building strong friendships and seeking opportunities beyond academics. These experiences contributed significantly to her growth.
