Indianapolis Public Schools has announced that the IPS Board of School Commissioners approved Rolonda Gardner as the principal of the IPS Therapeutic Day Program, formerly known as ROOTS. The approval took place during the Board Action Session on Thursday, August 29.
Rolonda Gardner brings extensive experience and dedication to her new role. Born in Denver, Colorado, and raised in Gary, Indiana, Gardner's education journey began in Gary Public Schools. After serving in the United States Army, she pursued higher education at IUPUI and earned a Master of Education and Building Level Administrator licensure from Marian University.
Gardner's career includes roles such as Title I teacher at Fall Creek Academy and special education positions within Indianapolis Public Schools. Her leadership skills led her to become Lead Specialist for Secondary and Alternative Options, where she influenced special education practices. As a Learning Community Coordinator, she supported building leaders across secondary and alternative programs.
Now serving as interim leader of the IPS Therapeutic Day Program, Gardner is well-positioned to guide this community of students and staff. Her background in special education equips her to address therapeutic needs effectively.
“I am honored to serve the extraordinary students, families, and staff at the IPS Therapeutic Day Program,” said Gardner. “I am excited to share our progress and vision for the reinvention of day programming in IPS in the coming months, including a community-driven program name!”
