Applications for 2025 Statehouse internships with Indiana House Republicans are now open, area lawmakers announced.

State Rep. David Abbott (R-Rome City) stated that the Indiana House of Representatives offers a spring semester internship at the Statehouse in Indianapolis during the legislative session, which will start in January and conclude in April. House interns earn $900 biweekly and work full-time, Monday through Friday.

"Our interns get a better understanding of how state government operates while also gaining valuable skills that employers are looking for in potential candidates," Abbott said. "This is a great opportunity for students and graduates in the community to gain experience working at the Statehouse."

State Rep. Ben Smaltz (R-Auburn) mentioned that internships are open to college students and recent graduates of all majors. Interns receive free parking, career and professional development assistance, enrollment access to an Indiana government class, and opportunities to earn academic credits through their college or university.

"Whether it's covering committees, talking with constituents or assisting with media requests, our interns are a big part of making sure the legislative session runs smoothly," Smaltz said. "Interning with Indiana House Republicans is a rewarding experience and I encourage students and recent graduates to apply."

State Rep. Denny Zent (R-Angola) added that interns are also eligible to apply for a competitive $3,000 scholarship to use toward undergraduate and graduate expenses.

"Our Statehouse interns are a great asset throughout the legislative session," Zent said. "With a variety of available roles, young Hoosiers can find something that fits them and their skillset."

The program offers opportunities for students to work in various departments related to their studies, including legislative operations, policy, and communications.

Indiana House Republican intern recruiters will be available on Sept. 13 at Purdue University Fort Wayne Mastodon Internship and Career Fair.

Applications are available online at indianahouserepublicans.com/internship and are due by Oct. 31.
