The Chickadaunce Farm in Vigo County has been awarded a Hoosier Homestead Centennial Award for its continuous operation since 1913, as announced by State Rep. Bruce Borders (R-Jasonville) and State Sen. Greg Goode (R-Terre Haute).
"The Hoosier Homestead awards honor the remarkable dedication of families who have preserved and nurtured their farms for over a century," Borders stated. "These families are the backbone of Indiana's agricultural tradition, and their contributions have significantly shaped our state's rural landscape. This recognition is a tribute to their enduring hard work and commitment."
State Sen. Goode added, "The Chickadaunce Farm has contributed to Indiana's farming legacy, which has helped the state become one of the nation's top agriculture producers. The Hoosier Homestead Award is a great way to honor our state's rich tradition of family farms, and I congratulate this family for earning this recognition."
Farms that have been owned and operated by the same family for 100, 150, or 200 years can qualify for centennial, sesquicentennial, or bicentennial Hoosier Homestead awards.
The Chickadaunce Farm was among 104 awardees recently recognized at the Indiana State Fair for their dedication to the state's agriculture industry. Hoosier Homestead ceremonies are conducted every spring and summer. Since its inception in 1976, more than 6,000 farms have been honored.
