The Borgmeier Farm in Knox County recently received a Hoosier Homestead Centennial Award for being in operation since 1904, according to State Rep. Bruce Borders (R-Jasonville) and State Sen. Eric Bassler (R-Washington).
"The Hoosier Homestead awards honor the remarkable dedication of families who have preserved and nurtured their farms for over a century," Borders said. "These families are the backbone of Indiana's agricultural tradition, and their contributions have significantly shaped our state's rural landscape. This recognition is a tribute to their enduring hard work and commitment."
"Hoosier farmers are some of the most dedicated people working in Indiana," Bassler said. "As the ninth leading farming state in the nation, Indiana's agriculture industry owes a great deal to family farms who have worked hard over the years to remain successful. I am grateful to these families and congratulate them for receiving this recognition."
Farms owned and operated by the same family for 100, 150, and 200 years can qualify for centennial, sesquicentennial or bicentennial Hoosier Homestead awards.
This farm family was among 104 awardees recently recognized at the Indiana State Fair for their dedication to the state's agriculture industry. Hoosier Homestead ceremonies are conducted every spring and summer. The state has honored more than 6,000 farms since the award was established in 1976.
