Indianapolis Public Schools (IPS) is highlighting the achievements of its alumni through the IPS Alumni Spotlight, a series aimed at celebrating former students and their diverse journeys. Recently, IPS interviewed Dr. David Holder, a 1998 graduate of Arlington High School, about his educational journey and career.
Holder pursued higher education after graduating from IPS, earning a bachelor's degree in business administration and management information systems, an MBA from the Indiana Institute of Technology, and a doctorate in business administration with a specialization in information technology management. He currently serves as the senior program manager for global security systems at Coca-Cola's headquarters in Atlanta.
Reflecting on his time at IPS, Holder emphasized the significant impact of attending Arsenal Technical High School and participating in its math and science technology program. "The problem-solving and critical thinking skills I developed during my time in the program have been invaluable," he said.
Holder also recalled influential teachers who shaped his educational experience. He mentioned Dr. Washington for her emphasis on respecting advanced degrees and Dean Kelly for maintaining high behavioral standards at Arsenal Tech High School. At Arlington High School, Mr. Griffin’s economics class imparted valuable life lessons about saving and investing, while counselor Gwen Maxey-Crowdus provided crucial guidance.
Maintaining connections with the IPS community has been important to Holder. He stays in touch with fellow alumni through social media and emphasizes networking as a key resource for future support.
Holder faced challenges during his time at IPS but found that overcoming fears related to certain classes contributed to his personal growth. He encourages current students to take full advantage of their education and resources available at IPS.
Holder remains involved with IPS by encouraging family members who attend the district to excel academically and utilize available opportunities for their future success.
