Indianapolis Public Schools (IPS) has appointed Chante Campbell as the new principal of Eleanor Skillen School 34, a Montessori school. Her appointment was confirmed by the IPS Board of School Commissioners on July 25 during their Action Session. Campbell succeeds former principal Krista Douglass, who recently assumed a leadership role outside the district.

“I am elated to be selected for this opportunity and can’t wait to get to work serving the entire Eleanor Skillen community,” Campbell said. “I am determined to work closely with teachers, students, and families to make the Montessori experience a great learning environment at Skillen. I look forward to all the possibilities that we will create together.”

Campbell, an alumna of IPS, began her career as an elementary teacher, later serving as both a classroom teacher and instructional coach before transitioning into administration. She served as an assistant principal in IPS for six years before being promoted to principal at George Julian School 57.

During her tenure at George Julian School 57, Campbell focused on strengthening school-community partnerships, making it a preferred neighborhood school in the Irvington community. She maintained high expectations for students and teachers alike to promote educational equity and was recognized by district leaders for her ability to unite the community during challenging times.

At George Julian, Campbell played an active role in revitalizing the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA). She is trained in Responsive Classroom techniques and used these skills to implement strategies that reduced suspensions through restorative practices and social-emotional learning in every classroom.

Other notable achievements under Campbell’s leadership included developing teachers' use of data within Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) for targeted instruction based on student needs. This initiative led to the school exceeding its NWEA goals in reading.

Camille Richie now serves as the principal at George Julian School 57.

“We are excited to see the positive impact Chante Campbell will bring to Eleanor Skillen,” said Erica Robinson, one of the district’s Executive Directors of Schools. “Chante’s dedication, experience, and passion for education will undoubtedly foster a thriving learning environment for our students.”
