Marion County's four universities invested $18,055,336 on their basketball teams in 2023, a 1.1% decrease from the previous year, according to the U.S. Department of Education.

The county’s funding for the basketball teams comprised 23.6% of all money invested in sports teams in 2023.

The average sports expenses in Marion County have grown 145.3% since 2010.

Butler University stood out as the university in Marion County that received the most basketball funding during 2023. The institution received $10,824,900 - or 60% of all the money destined to basketball teams.

Basketball is one of the most popular sports played at U.S. colleges, as well as football. NCAA basketball teams are often as popular as NBA teams, and offer a different experience for fans.
