Summer Bridge Program Paves the Way for Incoming Sophomores at BDU
Starting a new school always presents a challenge or two.
The challenge may seem particularly daunting if that new experience involves not only high school curriculum, but college coursework as well.
Enter the Summer Bridge program at Ben Davis University High School.
Summer Bridge is a focused, three-week program designed to onboard incoming tenth-grade students to BDU and early college. Students work on courses required for graduation, completing a project-based learning unit to fulfill graduation pathways requirements. Most importantly, Summer Bridge connects students with BDU staff and fellow students to build a community of learners that will carry each group through the next three years.
“The Summer Bridge program is an integral part of sustaining the culture and success of Ben Davis University High School,” said BDU Principal Steve Samuel. “Our scholars enjoy the experience and talk about it throughout their time with us at BDU. We are so thankful for the dedicated staff who make this experience meaningful each summer.”
Ben Davis University High School is a partnership between the MSD of Wayne Township and Vincennes University. It provides a rigorous, innovative educational program designed for students who excel in a small and supportive academic environment, culminating in a high school diploma and associate’s degree. It has had a 100-percent graduation rate for 11 years in a row.
