Indianapolis Public Schools is partnering with Baldwin Excavation to offer a pumpkin patch experience for students at William McKinley School 39. Each student will receive a pumpkin, apple cider, and a treat during the event, which will take place on Friday, Oct. 10 from 2 to 3:30 p.m. at the school located at 1733 Spann Ave.
The pumpkins will be placed in the school's chicken yard, providing students with a hands-on outdoor learning opportunity. Additional activity stations will be set up to allow for further exploration and engagement.
This event is connected to the school's "Chicken Tenders" project, in which fifth-grade students care for chickens as part of a STEM program that incorporates biology, math, and engineering concepts. The project aims to teach responsibility, empathy, and understanding of life cycles.
The outdoor learning lab at William McKinley School 39 also includes a garden and beehives. According to the school, the chicken project has become one of the most sought-after experiences for students.
