The Airmen of Note, a prominent jazz ensemble of the United States Air Force Band, is scheduled to perform at Arsenal Technical High School on April 25. The ensemble was established in 1950 to perpetuate the legacy of Major Glenn Miller’s Army Air Forces dance band. It consists of 18 active-duty musicians and is based at Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling in Washington, D.C. The Airmen of Note is one of six ensembles making up the U.S. Air Force Band.
Known for collaborating with jazz icons such as Dizzy Gillespie, Joe Williams, Sarah Vaughan, and Doc Severinsen, the Airmen of Note has showcased its musical prowess at various national and international venues, including significant jazz festivals and military events. The Jazz Heritage Series, launched in 1990, has facilitated the ensemble's outreach to a broad audience via radio, satellite, and online broadcasts.
The group has produced notable recordings, like the holiday album “Cool Yule,” which reached No. 2 on the JazzWeek jazz chart. Their music is available across digital platforms and media outlets globally.
While entertaining audiences, the Airmen of Note also play an important role as ambassadors of the United States Air Force, performing to honor veterans and foster patriotism. Their performances exemplify the dedication and skill prevalent among Airmen dedicated to protecting national freedoms.
The performance is set for April 25 from 7:30 to 9 p.m. at Arsenal Technical High School. Tickets can be reserved online.
