Avon High School senior Calleigh Neal was recognized at the Statehouse by State Senator Brett Clark and State Representative Greg Steuerwald. Neal received Senate Concurrent Resolution 30 for her achievement as Indiana's Distinguished Young Woman for 2025.
Neal has an impressive record at Avon High School, serving as student body president, an officer in DECA, and participating in the Avon Youth Civic Engagement Council and the National Honor Society. Additionally, she is a four-year varsity letter winner in golf.
Beyond her school commitments, Neal actively engages with her community. Her activities include leading Vacation Bible School, babysitting, tutoring younger students, and participating in meaningful conversations.
Her contributions and dedication led her to earn the title of Indiana's Distinguished Young Woman for 2025. The Distinguished Young Women program is the oldest and largest scholarship program for high school-aged girls, celebrating young women’s achievements in academics, leadership, and talents.
"This young woman is the epitome of what it means to be a multifaceted go-getter," stated Clark. "Her determination and work ethic earned her this amazing achievement. Once again, congratulations Calleigh, and I wish you well in your future endeavors."
In addition to her recent title, Neal is also the reigning Optimist International Oratorical World Champion, a National Merit Finalist, a United States Presidential Scholars candidate, and one of two Indiana delegates in the United States Senate Youth Program.
"Calleigh is still a student, yet has already accomplished so much through school, extracurricular activities and helping others," noted Steuerwald. "Being the first Avon High School student to be named Distinguished Young Woman of Indiana is tremendous, and I look forward to her representing our state on the national stage and what she'll achieve as a future leader."
