U.S. Senator Todd Young (R-Ind.) addressed the Senate floor to commemorate the 100th anniversary of WOWO Radio, a station based in Fort Wayne, Indiana. WOWO Radio first began broadcasting on March 31, 1925, at 500 watts and on frequency 1320 AM.

Senator Young highlighted the enduring presence of WOWO Radio in northeast Indiana. "Over the past century, through good times and bad, Hoosiers in the northeast part of our state have turned on and tuned in to WOWO Radio," he stated. He noted that despite changes over time, including frequency adjustments and studio relocations, the station remains a staple for its listeners.

Young praised WOWO's historical role in providing news updates during significant events such as World War II and other pivotal moments like the Blizzard of 1978 and September 11 attacks. He also mentioned how WOWO has been integral to local culture by offering entertainment programs like Hoosier Hop and Modern Home Forum.

The senator recounted various contributions made by WOWO personalities over the years, including Bob Chase's long tenure as sports director and voice of Komets hockey team. He acknowledged more recent hosts such as Charly Butcher, Pat Miller, and Kayla Blakeslee for their connection with audiences.

Brian Ford, News Director at WOWO, shared his childhood memory of turning to WOWO during storm warnings—a testament to its reliability for local news coverage.

Reflecting on its call sign origins from 1925 when it was assigned east of the Mississippi River without specific meaning but later embraced by listeners as "Wayne Offers Wonderful Opportunities," Young emphasized that WOWO is more than just letters; it represents a significant cultural entity within northeast Indiana.

Senator Young concluded by expressing confidence that despite future changes brought about by time or technology advancements over another century ahead—WOWO will continue being an essential part of life for those living around Fort Wayne area: "I have no doubt...WOWO will remain on air."
