Indiana's Community Crossings Matching Grant Program has allocated over $3.9 million in state funding to local road and bridge projects, according to State Representative Tim Yocum. The program aims to support communities with road reconstruction, bridge preservation, intersection improvements, and other related projects.
This year, 245 Indiana communities will receive more than $200 million through these state matching grants. "Maintaining and improving our roads is critical to the safety and success of our local counties and cities," Yocum stated. "These grants provide strong foundations for making lasting improvements that benefit all Hoosiers."
The recipients of this funding include Clinton with $901,203; Parke County receiving $1.5 million; Universal granted $56,342; and Vermillion County also receiving $1.5 million.
Consumer Affairs recently ranked Indiana as the best state in the nation for overall road conditions, highlighting the state's low rate of traffic fatalities and quality roads.
Yocum explained that smaller municipalities are required to provide a 25 percent match in local funds for eligibility, while larger communities must provide a 50 percent match. The state mandates that half of the available matching funds be awarded annually to communities within counties with populations of 50,000 or less. Since its inception in 2016, Community Crossings has distributed more than $2 billion for local road and bridge enhancements.
