Indiana's Community Crossings Matching Grant Program has allocated over $1.7 million to local communities for road and bridge projects, as announced by State Representatives Kendell Culp and Jack Jordan. This program supports road reconstruction, bridge preservation, intersection improvements, and other infrastructure projects. In 2025, a total of 245 Indiana communities will receive more than $200 million in state matching grants.
State Rep. Kendell Culp commented on the significance of this funding: "Bridge and road maintenance can be a large undertaking for a rural town or city," he said. "With this funding, we can not only keep roadways safe but also kickstart infrastructure projects to connect communities."
Indiana has been recognized by Consumer Affairs as the best state for overall road conditions due to its low rate of traffic fatalities and high-quality roads.
The grant recipients include Medaryville with $194,512, Pulaski County with $994,531, and Winamac with $547,498. According to State Rep. Jack Jordan, smaller municipalities must match 25 percent of the funds locally while larger communities need a 50 percent match. He added that "the state requires 50 percent of available matching funds be awarded annually to communities within counties with a population of 50,000 or less." Since its inception in 2016, the Community Crossings program has distributed over $2 billion for local infrastructure improvements.
Jordan emphasized the importance of these investments: "We rely on safe and dependable roadways to get from place to place," he stated. "Strong infrastructure is critical to growing our local communities through new businesses and residents."
