Indiana's Community Crossings Matching Grant Program has allocated over $2.4 million to local communities for road and bridge projects, according to Montgomery County legislators. State Rep. Beau Baird (R-Greencastle) emphasized the importance of this investment, stating, "Investing in our local roads and bridges is essential for keeping our communities connected and well-maintained."

The program supports various infrastructure projects, including road reconstruction and bridge preservation. This year, 245 Indiana communities will receive more than $200 million in state matching grants. Indiana was recently recognized by Consumer Affairs as having the best overall road conditions in the nation.

State Rep. Mark Genda (R-Frankfort) highlighted the significance of these updates: "Road updates, maintenance and projects are essential for keeping our roadways safe and functional for Hoosiers." The funding assists smaller communities with necessary infrastructure improvements.

Grant recipients include Crawfordsville ($688,176), Montgomery County ($1.5 million), and New Market ($290,187). State Rep. Jeff Thompson (R-Lizton) noted that programs like Community Crossings contribute to Indiana's strong infrastructure reputation.

To qualify for funding, smaller municipalities must provide a 25 percent match in local funds, while larger ones require a 50 percent match. State Rep. Matt Commons (R-Williamsport) explained that half of the available matching funds are designated annually for counties with populations under 50,000.

Commons stated, "Not every area has the resources or funds to take on major road and bridge projects that could bring economic growth." The grants aim to support rural areas by attracting new business opportunities.
