Indiana's Community Crossings Matching Grant Program has allocated over $1.7 million in state funding to local communities for road and bridge projects, as announced by State Representative Bruce Borders. This initiative is part of a broader effort that will see 245 Indiana communities receive more than $200 million in state matching grants this year.

The program supports various infrastructure projects, including road reconstruction, bridge preservation, and intersection improvements. "Strong infrastructure is the foundation of strong communities," stated Borders. "These grants will help improve the roads Hoosiers rely on daily, making travel safer and supporting local businesses and residents."

Consumer Affairs recently ranked Indiana as the best state for overall road conditions, highlighting its low rate of traffic fatalities and quality roads.

Among the grant recipients are Merom with $24,842, Shelburn receiving $252,729, and Sullivan County awarded $1.5 million. According to Borders, smaller municipalities must provide a 25 percent match in local funds to qualify for funding, while larger communities must provide a 50 percent match. The program mandates that half of the available matching funds be awarded annually to communities within counties with populations of 50,000 or less. Since its inception in 2016, Community Crossings has distributed over $2 billion to enhance local roads and bridges.
