House Speaker Todd Huston has appointed State Representative Beau Baird as the new chair of the House Environmental Affairs Committee. This change comes as State Representative Alan Morrison steps down to take on a new role as director of the Indiana Department of Natural Resources, a position he accepted at the request of Governor-elect Mike Braun.
"Beau has demonstrated a keen understanding of environmental issues and a commitment to preserving Indiana's natural resources while embracing economic growth," Huston stated. "His background and expertise position him well to lead the House Environmental Affairs Committee, and I look forward to his guidance this legislative session."
Baird will maintain his roles in the House Agriculture and Rural Development Committee and the House Rules and Legislative Procedure Committee. However, he will leave his position on the House Ways and Means Committee, with State Representative Cory Criswell stepping in to fill that vacancy.
"I'm grateful for the opportunity to serve as chair of the House Environmental Affairs Committee," Baird expressed. "When I was first elected to the General Assembly, I had the privilege of serving on this committee and gained valuable experience addressing key environmental issues impacting Hoosiers. As a lifelong farmer, I truly understand the importance of balancing environmental stewardship with responsible growth. I'm committed to advancing policies that benefit our environment, rural communities, and state as a whole."
