Four seniors from Indianapolis Public Schools (IPS) have been awarded the 2024 Lilly Endowment Community Scholarships. These scholarships provide full tuition for students to attend any accredited college or university in Indiana.
The recipients are from Shortridge, Arsenal Technical, and George Washington high schools. The scholarship covers tuition, fees, and a special allocation for books and equipment for four years at eligible Indiana colleges or universities.
Since its inception in the 1998-1999 school year, the Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship Program has provided substantial support to deserving students. It has awarded approximately $486 million in tuition grants, benefiting over 5,000 Indiana students.
The scholarships were announced during surprise ceremonies at each school. The events were organized with the Central Indiana Community Foundation (CICF), school leaders, and student services personnel. Families of the scholars also participated in these ceremonies.
“Zakariya, Emily, Ayodeji, and Eduar embody the dedication, perseverance, and talent that define IPS students,” said Melody Coryell, Executive Director of Postsecondary Readiness at IPS. “Their hard work has earned them a bright future, and the Lilly Scholarship will provide the support they need to pursue their academic and career goals.”
Coryell noted that this year's recipients represent nearly 25 percent of Marion County's Lilly Scholars. Last year, two IPS students received similar recognition.
