State Representatives Matt Commons and Kendell Culp have been appointed to serve on key House standing committees at the Indiana Statehouse. These appointments, made biennially by the Indiana House Speaker after the November election, are effective for the duration of the members' two-year terms.
Matt Commons, who was elected to his first term in November, will join the House Local Government Committee, House Natural Resources Committee, and the House Veterans Affairs and Public Safety Committee. "Using the knowledge from my time as a local commissioner and in the military will help me contribute to these discussions that will shape Indiana's future," Commons stated. He also encouraged constituents to reach out with questions and comments by contacting his office.
Kendell Culp has been reappointed as vice chair of the House Environmental Affairs Committee. Additionally, he will serve on the House Utilities, Energy and Telecommunications Committee and the House Elections and Apportionment Committee. According to Culp, committees play a crucial role in vetting bills by hearing public testimony and considering amendments. "House District 16 has the most diverse energy generation portfolio in Indiana," Culp remarked. "With so much discussion on energy, I am excited to continue the conversation to create effective solutions to growing concerns."
The 2025 legislative session is set to begin at 1:30 p.m. on January 8th. Hoosiers are encouraged to visit iga.in.gov for information on legislation, calendars, committee meetings, and sessions.
