Nominations are open for Indiana's inaugural award recognizing first responders who have been killed or seriously injured while serving the public. This initiative is made possible by legislation supported by State Representative Lindsay Patterson from Brookville.
The Hoosier First Responder Medal of Honor is designed to honor firefighters, emergency medical responders, law enforcement officers, and others who demonstrate exceptional bravery and gallantry, risking their lives beyond the call of duty.
"Indiana's first responders protect our communities day after day, putting their lives on the line," stated Patterson. "This new award will recognize the sacrifice and bravery of those who risked all to help others. I want to personally thank first responders for their dedication to our well-being."
Eligible candidates include Indiana-based law enforcement officers, firefighters, corrections officers, public safety telecommunicators, EMS workers, emergency management service providers, county coroners, deputy coroners, public safety agency employees, or volunteers involved in rapid emergency response.
Further information on how to nominate someone for this medal and other special recognitions can be found through the Indiana Department of Homeland Security at in.gov/dhs/special-recognitions.
