Nominations are now open for Indiana's inaugural award recognizing first responders who have been killed or seriously injured in the line of duty. This initiative is supported by State Representative J.D. Prescott from Union City.

The Hoosier First Responder Medal of Honor will be awarded to firefighters, emergency medical responders, law enforcement officers, and others who demonstrate exceptional bravery and courage, risking their lives beyond the call of duty.

"The bravery of Indiana’s first responders is something we all rely on, but sometimes goes unnoticed," said Prescott. "The Hoosier First Responder Medal of Honor will ensure that those who have given so much to their community receive the recognition they deserve."

Eligible candidates for this award include Indiana first responders such as law enforcement officers, firefighters, corrections officers, public safety telecommunicators, EMS workers, emergency management service providers, county coroners, deputy coroners, public safety agency employees or volunteers involved in rapid emergency response.

Further details on nominating someone for the Hoosier First Responder Medal of Honor and other recognitions available through the Indiana Department of Homeland Security can be found at in.gov/dhs/special-recognitions.
