Indianapolis Public Schools (IPS) is set to hold a groundbreaking ceremony on June 11, 2024, at Eliza Blaker School 55. This event marks the sixth such ceremony this spring under the district's Rebuilding Stronger Capital Referendum initiative. More ceremonies are planned for the summer and upcoming school year.

The Rebuilding Stronger Capital Referendum was approved by voters in May 2023 to fund facility improvements across 23 IPS schools, including Eliza Blaker. The $410 million raised will finance a new full-size gym, media center, expanded academic spaces, renovated kitchen and cafeteria, and upgraded outdoor facilities at Eliza Blaker.

"Every family in Indianapolis deserves to feel excited about the school their children attend," stated IPS Superintendent Dr. Aleesia Johnson. "Thanks to the support of this community, we are delivering on that promise, creating vibrant, welcoming, and warm school buildings in every neighborhood."

Eliza Blaker School 55 will continue as a Reggio Emilia-inspired elementary school for Zones 2 and 3 serving pre-K through fifth grade students. Renovations are scheduled for completion by Spring 2026 with normal operations maintained during construction.
