The deadline for applications to the Indiana House Republican internship program is approaching, with submissions due by October 31. The program offers a full-time internship during the spring semester at the Statehouse in Indianapolis, coinciding with the legislative session from January to April.
State Representative Michael Aylesworth (R-Hebron) highlighted that interns work Monday through Friday and receive $900 biweekly. They may also earn academic credit through their college or university. "Students who intern at the Statehouse often find many pathways to future careers," Aylesworth stated. "No matter your major, this internship can be incredibly rewarding and a great addition to a professional resume."
Representative Julie Olthoff (R-Crown Point) encouraged interested college sophomores, juniors, seniors, graduate students, and recent graduates of all majors to apply online at indianahouserepublicans.com/internship before the deadline. "Whether you are looking to learn more about government or meet industry leaders, Indiana House internships are the perfect place to gain professional experience and expand your network," she said.
Representative Hal Slager (R-Schererville) noted that internships include benefits such as free parking, career development assistance, and access to an Indiana government class. Interns can also apply for a competitive $3,000 scholarship for educational expenses. "Students can see first-hand the ins and outs of how our legislative process works in Indiana," Slager remarked. "Interns also make professional connections, develop new skills and learn from staff."
The program allows students to work in departments related to their studies like legislative operations, policy, and communications. Applications must be submitted by October 31.
