Porter County legislators recently received appointments to serve on interim study committees, which will meet throughout the summer and fall to explore policy issues and work together to identify solutions. Legislators will hear testimony from the public, various experts, and stakeholders as they work on bill recommendations ahead of the budget session in January.
State Rep. Julie Olthoff (R-Crown Point) will serve as a member of the Interim Study Committee on Child Services. "Child fatalities are devastating and tragic, which is why it's important for Indiana to investigate these cases," Olthoff said. "By conducting a thorough review, we hope to consider more ways Hoosier kids can be protected."
State Rep. Ed Soliday (R-Valparaiso) will serve as a chair of the Interim Study Committee on Energy, Utilities and Telecommunications. He will also serve on the Legislative Council, the Funding Indiana's Roads for a Stronger, Safer Tomorrow Task Force, the Geological and Water Survey Advisory Council, and the Governor's Security Council. "Interim study committees allow for collaboration and discussion that will influence legislation in the coming session," Soliday said. "This summer and fall, we'll review annual reports from the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission to get a better understanding of where things stand on areas like our energy grid and broadband services across the state, and draft targeted legislation for any outstanding issues."
State Rep. Michael Aylesworth (R-Hebron) will serve as a chair of the Interim Study Committee on Agriculture and Natural Resources. He will also serve on the Midwest Interstate Passenger Rail Compact Commission.
