Lake County legislators recently received appointments to serve on interim study committees, which will meet throughout the summer and fall to explore policy issues and work together to identify solutions. Legislators will hear testimony from the public, various experts, and stakeholders as they work on bill recommendations ahead of the budget session in January.
State Rep. Julie Olthoff (R-Crown Point) will serve as a member of the Interim Study Committee on Child Services. "Child fatalities are devastating and tragic, which is why it's important for Indiana to investigate these cases," Olthoff said. "By conducting a thorough review, we hope to consider more ways Hoosier kids can be protected."
State Rep. Hal Slager (R-Schererville) will serve as a member of the Medicaid Oversight Committee. He will also serve on the Interstate Rail Passenger Advisory Council. "Medicaid continues to be a hot topic and is among our state's growing budgeting concerns," Slager said. "This summer, we'll take a deeper look into this program and consider what we can do to continue assisting Hoosiers while keeping expenditures in check."
State Rep. Michael Aylesworth (R-Hebron) will serve as chair of the Interim Study Committee on Agriculture and Natural Resources. He will also serve on the Midwest Interstate Passenger Rail Compact Commission.
