Letter to Neighbor of JCI Jones Chemical

Dear Neighbor of JCI Jones Chemicals,

On October 12, 13, and 14, the Marion County Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC) will

conduct hazardous material response exercises with JCI Jones Chemicals at its Beech Grove

facility on Bethel Avenue.

These exercises are part of an annual exercise requirement by the Indiana Emergency Response

Commission and will include the following departments and agencies: Indianapolis Fire

Department, Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, Beech Grove Police Department,

Marion County Emergency Management Agency, Marion County Public Health Department,

Indianapolis Emergency Medical Services, and Beech Grove Emergency Medical Services.

While this is a hazardous material exercise, no chemicals will be released over the course of the

three days. Theatrical fog will be used to simulate any chemical releases.

Exercises will begin each day around 9:30 AM and are expected to conclude by 1:30 PM. During

this time, you may experience increased public safety vehicle traffic around the facility.

The Marion County LEPC consists of volunteers from public agencies, local industry, and

concerned citizens in the community and is responsible for planning safe and effective

responses to chemical accidents, and for increasing citizen awareness of the chemicals in our

community, including emergency procedures for the public during a chemical accident.

For more information about LEPC’s, please see the enclosed pamphlet. If there are any

questions about the exercises, please contact Jeff Larmore with the Marion County Health

Department at (317) 221-2272.
