Marion County resident Devon Humphery is gaining firsthand experience at the Indiana Statehouse this legislative session. Humphery, who is interning with State Representative Andrew Ireland and other members of the Indiana House of Representatives, is currently studying emerging media design and development at Ball State University.
"It's a humbling experience to have the opportunity to make decisions that truly impact Hoosiers," said Humphery. "Surrounded by incredible individuals, I've learned that coming into this role without a political background, everyone has the chance to make a difference. It's not your title or talent that matters – it's your heart."
Humphery is a graduate of Franklin Central High School and is the son of Adrienne Smith and Jerry Humphery, and stepson of Jim Smith. In his role as a legislative intern, he is responsible for corresponding with constituents, and is involved in staffing committee hearings and floor proceedings.
"Devon has a unique opportunity to assist Hoosiers in a meaningful way," said State Rep. Andrew Ireland. "Interns are incredibly valuable to the Statehouse and he's been helpful to both lawmakers and constituents throughout session."
At the start of each year, the Indiana House of Representatives provides paid internship opportunities for college students, law-school students, graduate students, and recent graduates for the duration of the legislative session.
