State Representative Elizabeth Rowray, a Republican from Yorktown, has sponsored a Senate bill designed to boost the economic development of the city of Alexandria in Madison County.

The legislation, known as Senate Enrolled Act 491, would allow Alexandria to annex noncontiguous property for the establishment of an industrial park. The goal is to expand the city's capacity to attract new businesses, which could lead to job creation in the local area.

"Offering tools for the city to pursue an industrial park could be a game changer for the community and help pave the way for growth that will benefit the region for years to come."

The bill specifies that Alexandria would provide necessary services and infrastructure to the annexed property, either directly or via contracts.
