Putnam County native Sydney Anderson is expanding her experience through an internship with State Representative Beau Baird and his colleagues in the Indiana House of Representatives. The internship is part of the 2025 legislative session, providing Anderson with practical exposure to legislative work.
Anderson, who graduated from Greencastle High School, is completing her studies at Purdue University, majoring in public health with a focus on behavioral social science. She has also pursued minors in human development and family studies. Reflecting on her internship experience, Anderson remarked, "In asking advice from those I have met within the internship, all have shared 'be present.' Focusing too intently about achieving success can make you miss the richness of life. The focus is not what you did, but how you did it. The attitude, care and integrity behind the actions all mean more than the simple completion."
During her tenure as a legislative intern, Anderson handles communication with constituents and assists in staffing committee hearings and floor sessions. According to Baird, "Sydney is learning professional skills and building relationships that can help prepare her for the real world. Legislative interns offer critical support to both members and constituents throughout session."
Each year, the House of Representatives extends paid internship opportunities to college students, graduate students, law-school students, and recent graduates for the duration of its annual legislative session.
