Emma Smith, a native of Henry County and an Alexandria-Monroe High School graduate, is participating in a legislative internship during the 2025 session with State Rep. Cory Criswell and the Indiana House of Representatives. Smith, currently a junior at Indiana University majoring in law and public policy, is gaining valuable experience as she engages with constituents, assists with committee hearings, and helps manage floor proceedings.

Emma Smith commented on her internship, stating, "This internship has been a great experience to understand state-level government better. I have made great connections and friendships along the way." Rep. Criswell emphasized the benefits of the internship, saying, "This internship is allowing Emma to build connections and grow skills that will help lead her toward a promising career. Each year, interns are an instrumental part of session. I encourage Hoosier students to take advantage of this great opportunity."

The Indiana House of Representatives offers paid internships to college students, law-school students, graduate students, and recent graduates at the beginning of each year, lasting for the duration of the legislative session.
