Indiana's Community Crossings Matching Grant Program has allocated over $1.4 million to Huntington County for road and bridge projects, as announced by State Representative Lorissa Sweet (R-Wabash). The program aims to assist local communities with funding for various infrastructure improvements, including road reconstruction and bridge preservation.

This year, the initiative will distribute more than $200 million in state matching grants to 245 Indiana communities. "Essential upgrades to road and bridges not only keep Hoosiers safe, but they also support our local businesses and economy," stated Sweet. "These projects are a key part of attracting more residents and employers to our area."

Consumer Affairs recently ranked Indiana as the top state for overall road conditions, highlighting the state's low traffic fatality rate and quality roads.

According to Sweet, smaller municipalities must match 25 percent of the funding locally, while larger communities are required to match 50 percent. Additionally, 50 percent of available funds must be awarded annually to communities in counties with populations of 50,000 or less. Since its inception in 2016, the Community Crossings program has granted over $2 billion for local infrastructure improvements.
