Indianapolis Public Schools (IPS) will remain a primary focus for DREAM Alive, a mentoring organization, following a successful $200,000 fundraising campaign by the nonprofit.

DREAM Alive operates programs at Northwest, Longfellow, T.C. Howe, and Arlington middle schools. The organization aims to make a significant impact on students' lives by offering guidance, career development, and character building to vulnerable youth.

Founded in 2001 by former Indianapolis Colts offensive tackle Tarik Glenn and his wife Maya, DREAM Alive initially sought to establish community centers in underserved areas. However, the focus shifted when Glenn began collaborating directly with IPS. This collaboration led to a structured mentorship program that supports students over seven years.

“When I see our scholars, I see myself—someone with dreams bigger than their circumstances,” Glenn said. “Mentorship expanded the path forward for me, and now, through DREAM Alive, we’re creating that same opportunity for thousands of kids. This fundraiser isn’t just about raising money; it’s about inspiring the priceless gift of hope.”

The program's expansion is supported by community contributions. At the recent DREAM Makers Luncheon, the Indianapolis Colts and team owner Jim Irsay pledged a $100,000 matching gift to sustain and enhance DREAM Alive’s efforts.

“We’re honored to support DREAM Alive and the incredible work they’re doing to lift up the youth of Indianapolis,” said Jim Irsay. “Our youth are our future, and every dollar we match invests in their potential. I’ve seen firsthand how mentorship can change lives, and I’m proud to stand with Tarik and DREAM Alive to help make a difference in our community."

DREAM Alive's influence extends beyond academics. In the past semester alone, middle school participants experienced 91% fewer suspensions compared to their peers. This reduction fosters better interpersonal relationships and keeps students engaged in learning environments.

Since 2011, approximately 99% of DREAM Alive scholars have graduated high school compared to an average graduation rate of 72% during the same period.

“With partnerships across IPS, businesses, and the community,” Glenn stated that “DREAM Alive remains committed to shaping the next generation of leaders in Indianapolis.”
