Indiana's Community Crossings Matching Grant Program has allocated over $1.8 million in state funding to local communities for road and bridge projects, according to State Representative Matt Commons. This program is designed to support road reconstruction, bridge preservation, intersection improvements, and other infrastructure projects across the state.
This year, 245 communities in Indiana will benefit from more than $200 million in state matching grants. "Not every area has the resources or funds to take on major road and bridge projects that could bring economic growth," said Commons. "Community Crossings grants give communities and towns the additional support needed to attract new business and opportunities to rural areas."
Among the grant recipients are Fowler with $465,909; Otterbein receiving $100,050; Warren County awarded $908,819; West Lebanon getting $74,809; and Williamsport granted $342,861.
Commons explained that smaller municipalities must provide a 25 percent match in local funds to qualify for funding, while larger communities are required to provide a 50 percent match. Additionally, the program mandates that 50 percent of available matching funds be awarded annually to communities within counties with populations of 50,000 or less. Since its inception in 2016, Community Crossings has distributed more than $2 billion for local roads and bridges improvement.
