Indiana's Community Crossings Matching Grant Program has allocated over $1.3 million to Martin County for road and bridge projects, as announced by State Representative Shane Lindauer. The program supports local infrastructure improvements, with 245 Indiana communities receiving more than $200 million in grants this year.

"These grants go beyond funding roads and bridges, they’re an investment in the safety and connectivity of our communities," Lindauer stated. "I'm eager to see how this funding will advance local projects and create more efficient travel corridors for Hoosiers."

Consumer Affairs recently ranked Indiana as the top state for overall road conditions, citing low traffic fatalities and high-quality roads. In Martin County, specific allocations include $1.1 million for the county itself and $271,411 for Shoals.

To receive funding, smaller municipalities must match 25 percent of the grant with local funds, while larger ones need a 50 percent match. The program mandates that half of the available matching funds be awarded annually to communities within counties with populations under 50,000. Since its inception in 2016, Community Crossings has distributed over $2 billion for local infrastructure enhancements.
