Indiana's Community Crossings Matching Grant Program has allocated over $1.2 million to Brown County and Nashville for road and bridge projects, as announced by State Representative Dave Hall. The program aims to assist local communities with road reconstruction, bridge preservation, intersection improvements, and other related projects.
This year, a total of 245 Indiana communities will benefit from more than $200 million in state matching grants. According to Consumer Affairs, Indiana is recognized as the top state in the nation for overall road conditions due to its low rate of traffic fatalities and high-quality roads.
"Our rural and small-town roads are lifelines for residents, farmers and businesses," stated Hall. "By securing this funding, we're ensuring local communities can complete vital road improvements that will enhance safety and support economic development."
Brown County has been awarded $899,694 while Nashville will receive $313,870. To qualify for these funds, smaller municipalities must provide a 25 percent match in local funds whereas larger communities are required to provide a 50 percent match. Additionally, the state mandates that half of the available matching funds be awarded annually to communities within counties with populations of 50,000 or less.
Since its inception in 2016, the Community Crossings program has distributed over $2 billion towards improving local roads and bridges across Indiana.
