Indiana's Community Crossings Matching Grant Program has allocated over $1.5 million in state funding to local communities for road and bridge projects, as announced by State Representatives Stephen Bartels and Shane Lindauer. The program supports infrastructure improvements through grants for road reconstruction, bridge preservation, and intersection enhancements.

"This matching grant program allows us to address local infrastructure needs while preparing for future growth opportunities," stated Bartels. He emphasized the importance of investing in essential projects that ensure safe travel for Hoosiers.

The state was recently recognized by Consumer Affairs as having the best overall road conditions in the nation, highlighting Indiana's low traffic fatality rates and high-quality roads.

Local recipients of this round of funding include Birdseye with $93,907 and Dubois County receiving $1.5 million. Lindauer explained that smaller municipalities are required to match 25 percent of the funds locally, whereas larger communities must provide a 50 percent match. Additionally, half of the available funds are earmarked annually for communities in counties with populations under 50,000. Since its inception in 2016, the program has distributed more than $2 billion for local infrastructure improvements.

"These grants go beyond funding roads and bridges; they’re an investment in the safety and connectivity of our communities," Lindauer commented. He expressed anticipation for how these funds will enhance local projects and improve travel efficiency for residents.
