Indiana's Community Crossings Matching Grant Program has allocated $1,457,989 to Putnam County for local road and bridge projects. This announcement was made by State Representative Beau Baird from Greencastle.

The program aims to assist local communities with funding for various infrastructure projects such as road reconstruction, bridge preservation, and intersection improvements. This year, 245 communities across Indiana will receive over $200 million in state matching grants.

"Investing in our local roads and bridges is essential for keeping our communities connected and well-maintained," stated Rep. Baird. "These funds will go a long way in improving infrastructure and fostering economic growth, ensuring Hoosiers can travel safely and efficiently for years to come."

Consumer Affairs recently ranked Indiana as the best state in the nation for overall road conditions, highlighting its low rate of traffic fatalities and high-quality roads.

According to Baird, smaller municipalities are required to provide a 25 percent match in local funds to qualify for the funding, while larger communities must provide a 50 percent match. The program mandates that 50 percent of available matching funds be awarded annually to communities within counties with populations of 50,000 or less. Since its inception in 2016, Community Crossings has distributed more than $2 billion to enhance local roads and bridges.
