Indiana's Community Crossings Matching Grant Program has allocated over $500,000 in state funding for road and bridge projects in local communities. This announcement was made by State Representatives Matt Commons (R-Williamsport) and Michael Aylesworth (R-Hebron).

The program is designed to assist local communities with funding for various infrastructure projects, including road reconstruction, bridge preservation, and intersection improvements. In 2025, a total of 245 Indiana communities will benefit from more than $200 million in state matching grants.

State Rep. Matt Commons emphasized the importance of these grants: "Not every area has the resources or funds to take on major road and bridge projects that could bring economic growth," he said. "Community Crossings grants give communities and towns the additional support needed to attract new business and opportunities to rural areas."

Indiana has been recognized as having the best overall road conditions in the nation by Consumer Affairs, highlighting low traffic fatality rates and high-quality roads.

Among the grant recipients are Goodland ($186,000), Morocco ($88,192), and Mount Ayr ($264,037). To qualify for funding, smaller municipalities must provide a 25 percent match in local funds while larger communities must provide a 50 percent match. The program mandates that half of the available matching funds be awarded annually to communities within counties with populations of 50,000 or less. Since its inception in 2016, Community Crossings has distributed over $2 billion for local infrastructure improvements.

State Rep. Michael Aylesworth remarked on the significance of these grants: "These matching grants are so important for smaller communities that need assistance for necessary road maintenance and infrastructure projects," he said. "It's encouraging to see local areas receiving the funds they need to move forward on projects."
