Indiana's Community Crossings Matching Grant Program has allocated over $700,000 in state funding for road and bridge projects in local communities. State Representatives Kendell Culp and Jim Pressel announced the awards, highlighting the program's role in supporting infrastructure improvements across Indiana.

The program provides financial assistance for road reconstruction, bridge preservation, intersection improvements, and other related projects. This year, 245 communities will benefit from more than $200 million in state matching grants.

"Bridge and road maintenance can be a large undertaking for a rural town or city," said Culp. "With this funding, we can not only keep roadways safe but also kickstart infrastructure projects to connect communities."

Consumer Affairs recently ranked Indiana as the best state for overall road conditions due to its low rate of traffic fatalities and high-quality roads.

In this round of funding, Knox received $113,325 while Starke County was awarded $601,343. To qualify for these funds, smaller municipalities must provide a 25 percent match in local funds; larger communities must contribute a 50 percent match. The program mandates that half of the available matching funds go to counties with populations of 50,000 or less annually. Since its inception in 2016, Community Crossings has distributed over $2 billion to enhance local roads and bridges.

"Indiana is known as the Crossroads of America," stated Pressel. "The Community Crossings Matching Grant Program gives counties, towns and cities the extra funding they need to keep up with repairs and projects that come with high-traffic areas."
