Indiana's Community Crossings Matching Grant Program has allocated $482,005 to Martinsville for local road and bridge projects. This announcement was made by State Representatives Craig Haggard and Peggy Mayfield.
The program is designed to assist local communities with funding for road reconstruction, bridge preservation, intersection improvements, and other infrastructure projects. This year, 245 communities in Indiana will receive over $200 million in state matching grants.
"Infrastructure investment is one of the best ways we can support our communities and prepare for future growth," stated Haggard. "These grants will help make our local roadways safer and more efficient for all Hoosiers who live, work and travel our area."
Indiana recently earned recognition from Consumer Affairs as the top state in the nation for overall road conditions, attributed to a low rate of traffic fatalities and high-quality roads.
Mayfield explained that smaller municipalities must provide a 25 percent match in local funds to qualify for funding, while larger communities are required to provide a 50 percent match. The state mandates that half of the available matching funds be awarded annually to communities within counties with populations of 50,000 or less. Since its inception in 2016, Community Crossings has distributed over $2 billion to enhance local roads and bridges.
"Road maintenance and improvements are a key part of ensuring our communities remain safe and accessible," said Mayfield. "This funding will allow our local governments to tackle important projects that improve daily travel and encourage economic development."
