Indiana's Community Crossings Matching Grant Program has allocated over $3.9 million in state funding for local road and bridge projects, as announced by State Representative Stephen Bartels (R-Eckerty). The program aims to support local communities in efforts such as road reconstruction, bridge preservation, and intersection improvements. This year, a total of 245 Indiana communities will benefit from more than $200 million in state matching grants.

"This matching grant program allows us to address local infrastructure needs while preparing for future growth opportunities," said Bartels. "Investing in Indiana roads, bridges and other vital projects that are essential to get Hoosiers to their destinations safely is key to ensuring the state's success."

Indiana has been recognized as having the best overall road conditions nationwide by Consumer Affairs, highlighted by its low traffic fatality rate and high-quality roads.

Among the grant recipients are Cannelton with $212,599; Chrisney receiving $115,236; Grandview awarded $96,739; Perry County and Spencer County each granted $1.5 million; and Tell City with an allocation of $481,468.

Bartels explained that smaller municipalities must match 25 percent of the funding with local funds, whereas larger communities need a 50 percent match. The state mandates that half of the available matching funds be awarded annually to communities within counties having populations of 50,000 or less. Since its inception in 2016, Community Crossings has distributed more than $2 billion towards enhancing local roads and bridges.
