The Indiana House of Representatives has unanimously approved a bill introduced by State Representative Wendy McNamara aimed at enhancing the juvenile justice system in the state. The proposed legislation, House Bill 1403, is designed to foster collaboration among key stakeholders to better address the needs of at-risk youth through specific juvenile programs receiving grants.

"This bill encourages a collaborative effort to strengthen our juvenile legal system," McNamara stated. "By bringing local and regional partners to the table, we can better allocate resources to best meet the needs of our youth."

Additionally, McNamara's bill mandates that the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute consider further recommendations when adopting funding formulas for several grant programs, including the Juvenile Diversion Grant Program, the Juvenile Community Alternatives Grant Program, and the Juvenile Behavioral Health Competitive Grant Program. These changes aim to direct funds where they are most needed, particularly in rural areas of Indiana.

House Bill 1403 will now proceed to the Senate for further deliberation. More information about this bill can be found on iga.in.gov.
