U.S. Senator Todd Young, representing Indiana, has joined a bipartisan group of lawmakers to introduce the DOE Quantum Leadership Act of 2025. This legislation aims to enhance the United States' investment in quantum information science and research through the Department of Energy (DOE).

The proposed act would authorize federal funding over five years to boost research and development projects at the DOE. It would also grant the department authority to expand its current initiatives in quantum R&D.

"Quantum research and development is critical to our economic and national security. This legislation would ensure the Department of Energy has the resources and authority to accelerate advancements while also addressing the sector’s evolving technological and workforce challenges," stated Senator Young.

Quantum technology plays a crucial role in everyday devices such as phones and GPS systems, as well as medical technologies like MRI machines. Expanding research could lead to breakthroughs in pharmaceuticals and communications. With China focusing heavily on quantum advancements, this move is seen as vital for maintaining U.S. leadership in global technology.

Senators Dick Durbin from Illinois, Steve Daines from Montana, Chuck Schumer from New York, Lisa Murkowski from Alaska, and Alex Padilla from California have co-introduced this legislation alongside Senator Young.

The full text of the proposed legislation is available for public viewing.
