The Indiana House of Representatives has approved a bill authored by State Representative Beau Baird to allow students involved in FFA and 4-H to receive excused absences for attending certain events during the school year.
"House Bill 1660 is about supporting the next generation of leaders in Indiana," Baird stated. "4-H and FFA provide students with invaluable experiences that build leadership, responsibility, and real-world skills. By ensuring they can participate in these programs without penalty, we're investing in their growth and the future of our state."
According to Baird, the bill would permit Hoosier students to attend up to six 4-H and FFA events per school year without facing penalties for unexcused absences, provided they maintain good academic standing.
House Bill 1660 received unanimous approval from the House Education Committee before passing through the full House. The legislation will now proceed to the Senate for further consideration.
