State Representative Cindy Ledbetter from Newburgh has introduced a resolution to bring attention to heart disease in women during American Heart Month. The initiative comes in response to statistics showing that nearly 45% of American women over the age of 20 are living with cardiovascular disease, while awareness of related risks and symptoms has declined by almost 20% over the past decade.
Ledbetter emphasizes the importance of House Resolution 10, which encourages Hoosiers to increase their understanding of cardiovascular health and support women battling heart disease. "We know women are underrepresented in research on heart disease and strokes, leading to a lack of awareness on this important issue," Ledbetter stated. "I hope that by recognizing these gaps through my resolution, more women will take charge of their heart health and learn about the risks, potentially saving lives."
Cardiovascular disease remains the leading cause of death among women. To address this concern, the American Heart Association's "Go Red for Women" movement aims to educate people about the impact of heart disease on women and preventive measures.
