The Indiana House of Representatives has unanimously approved a resolution proposed by State Representative Heath VanNatter to rename a section of State Road 75 in honor of Carroll County sheriff's deputy Noah C. Rainey, who died in the line of duty.
The resolution seeks to rename the stretch between County Road 700 S and County Road 800 S in Carroll County after Deputy Rainey. "Deputy Rainey dedicated his life to serving and protecting our community and state," said VanNatter. "Carroll County lost a strong public servant, his department lost a partner, and his family lost a loving father and husband. Renaming a section of road after him is the least we can do to honor his memory and sacrifice."
Rainey, along with jail deputy Dane Northcutt, died on January 29, 2022, while responding to an emergency call east of Rossville in Clinton County. Rainey had served as a full-time deputy for three years with the Carroll County Sheriff's Office and as a reserve deputy for one year. He also worked with the Tippecanoe County Sheriff’s Office for three years and spent one year at the Indiana Department of Correction.
VanNatter noted that the road segment proposed for renaming was part of Rainey's last journey on the morning he passed away.
House Concurrent Resolution 5 will now proceed to the Indiana Senate for further deliberation. If approved by the General Assembly, the Indiana Department of Transportation will be authorized to carry out the renaming process in Carroll County.
