State Representative Elizabeth Rowray has introduced a bill aimed at expanding the Child Care and Development Fund (CCDF) program to better support foster families. The proposed legislation seeks to extend CCDF assistance to include all children in the homes of foster parents, provided they meet income eligibility criteria.
"This bill is about supporting the families who take on the vital but challenging role of fostering children," said Rowray. "By extending CCDF assistance to other children in the home of a foster parent, we would be ensuring these families have the resources they need to provide the right care and opportunities for all their children."
House Bill 1248 proposes that households with a foster parent become eligible for CCDF assistance, regardless of how many biological children are present. This initiative aims to help foster families access affordable child care, benefiting both foster and biological children within these homes.
"This legislation would ensure foster families have access to resources they need," Rowray added. "It is an important step toward making child care more accessible and affordable for those who open their homes to children in need."
The bill has successfully passed through the House Family, Children and Human Affairs Committee and is now awaiting further consideration by the House. More information can be found at iga.in.gov.
